Ahoj from the CZ!! I am still amazed by all the exciting opportunities I have at Czech Television. Recently, I had the chance to attend a workshop in Mobile Journalism, where I learned how to shoot and edit a news package all from my IPhone 6s. It was pretty amazing to learn that using the apps ‘MoviePro’ and ‘PinnacleStudio”, I was able to do stuff on my phone that I thought was only able to be done in a studio. Even though I have taken many social media and broadcasting classes, I was impressed with how informative this workshop was. What also made this workshop fun was that we worked in groups, which allowed me to get to know my co-workers better. I must admit I was a little nervous going into the MoJo training because I thought it was going to be in Czech. Thankfully they held it in English for me, which was AWESOME!
Since we last chatted, my second news package was published on Facebook!! The story was on a big cat named Krystof who is the only lynx in all of the Moravian Karst. I was able to interview Zoologist Martin Dul'a, who explained to me how rare it is that this cat was not only living there but how it’s been able to survive. When Dul'a would talk about Krystof he would have a big smile on his face. It was great to see someone so passionate about their job and animals. I hope I will be able to check back in with him to see how the lynx is doing and if he stays in the area. Overall, I'm very thankful I was able to shoot a story that highlights two of my favorite things: animals and nature. If you didn't have the chance to see the story click on the picture and it will send you to the lynx...oops I meant link haha -->
A problem I encountered was when Radka and I were sent to shoot a story at the Prague vs. Brno ice hockey game on October 26. We arrived to do the story but the camera guy left before we could shoot anything due to a miscommunication error. The game wasn’t a total waste though because we had a Czech version of a hotdog, enjoyed a local beer, and the Storobrno girls working the event took a polaroid picture of us. I will be able to have this picture as keepsake to remember this night and internship forever. (Check out the picture below)
Speaking of hockey, my next project will be a feature story on the Masaryk University hockey team. Radka and I will be interviewing the founders and players of the team. Ironically, I have found some interesting connections between Penn State and Masaryk’s hockey team. My plan is to try to use these connections to incorporate a little bit of Hockey Valley into my Czech news story!
Lastly, you already know that Europe is very big in Christmas markets. I LOVE CHRISTMAS and am beyond excited to be able to shoot a Facebook Live story on Brno’s Light Up Night. I’ve been told this event is not only spectacular but serves as the kickoff to Christmas markets. I am fully prepared that I might tear up at this event because I think I might be part elf……That’s how much Christmas means to me!!!!
