Greetings from the Czech Republic! I am studying at Masaryk University and interning with Česká Televise (Czech Television) from September through late December. I frequently get asked “Why Brno?" Well, the answer is pretty simple…. I didn’t pick the place, I picked the program! I am part of a group called “CzechMates”, which is comprised of select students from universities across the United States who wanted to study and work in the Czech Republic. This particular study abroad program appealed to me because it offered educational and personal growth rather than just partying and traveling.
My internship with Czech Television, will be centered around reporting stories for them in English on their Facebook and Internet pages. My goals are to strengthen my newsroom skills by attending post-production and mobile journalism workshops along with a lot of hands on experience. Hopefully during my time here, I will be able to visit both the Czech Television newsroom in Prague and Czech Television Sports Network. Outside of the journalistic aseptic of my internship, I want to develop better people skills across cultural boundaries. I am beyond excited for this opportunity and hope this experience will help me standout in future job opportunities.
The study part of my internship includes 4 classes: Intercultural Communications, Globalization, Entrepreneurship, and Czech Language. With what little free time I have available, I hope to travel around Eastern Europe as much as possible. Since my heritage is Czech, Slovak and Hungarian, I naturally want to appreciate these cultures first hand. No matter what happens during my time in the Czech Republic, I'm sure the memories, experiences and lessons I learn will last a lifetime.
