Duke ACC Tournament Preview

March 7, 2017

The best time of the year has finally come for all college basketball fans, March Madness. To kick it off the Blue Devils will take part in the ACC Tournament. Duke will be on the quest for a record 20th ACC Tournament Title. Over the last 20 years, Coach K has a 57-22 record in the tournament. If the Blue Devils win the ACC Tournament Coach K will earn his 14th championship, passing Dean Smith for the most all time. Duke hasn’t won the ACC Championship since 2011. Their first match up will be in the second round of the tournament against either NC State or Clemson on Wednesday at noon. They are entering ranked No.5 with a conference record of 11-7. The loss against rival North Carolina kept the Blue Devils out of the No. 4 spot. They lost 3 out of four games to end the regular season. Each of them were on the road and the lost by seven or fewer points. With the Blue Devils depth they have a strong chance to make far in the tournament. The Blue Devils are lead by All-ACC first team and scoring leader Luke Kennard (20.1 ppg). Jason Tatum (16 ppg and 7.3 rpg) was named to the All-Freshman Team and third-team. Matt Jones was named to the All-Defensive Team. Grayson Allen has been dealing with injuries all year but never count him out. Coming into this season he was the preseason “National Player of the Year.” The Blue Devils will have to win three games in three days to make it to the finals in the toughest conference in college basketball. Two of the teams they will have to beat are No. 4 Louisville and No. 1 North Carolina. It will be largely up to Kennard and Allen under the guidance of Coach K to get the Blue Devils to the finals.
